Academic Fellowship Program in Central Asia and Mongolia The Higher Education Support Program of Open Society Institute founded its Academic Fellowship Program (AFP) in 2004 to support the process of reforming higher education institutes in South and Eastern Europe countries, in former USSR states and in Mongolia. The Academic Fellowship Program focuses on:
· Support to Social Sciences and Humanities faculties aimed at reforms with a goal of improving education programs and methods of teaching; · Support after studying abroad for young teachers ‘coming back’ to their countries and universities; and support to their further academic development. The Program is being implemented in cooperation with partner faculties which support a work of local AFP teachers and invited quest foreign professors. AFP Priorities in Social Sciences and Humanities:
· Anthropology, · Regional and Area Studies / Culture, · Economics, · Gender research, · History, · Philosophy, · International Relations, · Human Rights and Public Law, · Journalism, · Political Science, · Public Policy/ Public Healthcare, · Social Work, · Psychology, · Social Science. AFP in Central Asia and Mongolia is being implemented in cooperation with Soros Foundation - Kyrgyzstan and Open Society Forum (Mongolia). AFP supports 40 local and 11 foreign teachers and professors in its region in 2008-2009 academic year that work in the following faculties/programs: · Anthropology, American University in Central Asia (AUCA); · Social and Cultural Anthropology, School of Social Sciences, National University in Mongolia; · Economics, School of Economics, National University in Mongolia; · School of Public Healthcare, Medical University in Mongolia; · Social Work, Mongolia State University of Education; · Social Science, American University in Central Asia (AUCA); · International and Comparative Politics, American University in Central Asia (AUCA); · Law, American University in Central Asia (AUCA); · Psychology, American University in Central Asia (AUCA); · International Economics, Tadjik National University.
