The Soros Foundation-Kyrgyzstan (SFK) is an international non-governmental private foundation that aims to create conditions in Kyrgyzstan for building an open society by supporting the development of public institutions and initiatives in all spheres of public life.

The founder of the Foundation is the Open Society Institute (OSI), headed by George Soros, the global financier and world-renowned philanthropist. The Foundation is part of an international network, which includes the national Soros Foundations in 31 countries and two regional Foundations covering its activities in another 27 countries.

The Foundation has been working in the country since 1993 and received official registration from the Ministry of Justice of the KR in late 1995. Since then, the Soros Foundation-Kyrgyzstan has continued to support civic initiatives in various areas such as legal, educational and economic reform, media support, NGOs and academia, promoting initiatives in the area of public policy, health and culture. To finance these initiatives the country has received more than USD 60 million in non-refundable grants from the SFK.

The work of the Foundation is governed by the strategic decisions and recommendations of the Supervisory Board of the SFK and the Open Society Institute and conducted in close cooperation with partners from government institutions, NGOs and international organizations.
